Windsor to Virginia Water - via The Long Walk & Windsor Deer Park!
Rating: 4.3 / 5
Distance: 8 miles
A cracking hike that I did with my dad - lots of points of interest on this one.
The route went via Windsor Castle, The Long Walk, King George III & His Horse Statue, Windsor Great Park, Windsor Deer Park, The Savill Garden, Oblesik Pond & Virginia Water.
They were setting up all of these lights and decorations for Windsor Great Park Illuminated. There was also a Christmas Market in between the Savill Garden & the Oblesik Pond.
At Virginia water there was a cool Totem Pole. As well as this the route went past the Cascade Waterfall - a fantastic man made waterfall. As well as Leptis Magna Ruins which are a Folly constructed in the 1820's.
We parked near the railway station in Windsor and then hiked 8 miles down to Virginia Water. We caught a bus back to Staines and then a train back to Windsor. The bus service from just outside Virginia Water to Staines is not that regular. If the times are inconveient there is also the possibility of getting the train from Virginia Water station to Staines and then another train to Windsor. That is a longer hike however.
I would recommend this route!
